Laura M. Swanger, 91, of Lewistown, passed away at 11:28 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at her home.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1933, in Reedsville, to the late Joseph Oscar and Mary (Tressler) Griffith. On Dec. 31, 1953, she married Harry C. Swanger, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 15, 2010.
Surviving are children: Harry C. Swanger Jr. and wife, Carole, of Lewistown, Penny Marie Hetrick and husband, Donald, of McVeytown, Kathy Jean Showers and husband, Gary, of Lewistown; grandchildren: Jennifer Walters, Amy Luse, Jamie Miller, Kevin Knepp; 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Knepp; siblings: Helen Hackett, Billy O Griffith, William R. Griffith, Irene Louise Sassaman, and Francis (Violet) McCunn and Jessie Griffith. She was the last of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Armagh-Brown High School in 1951 and was primarily a homemaker. She also babysat many children in her home.
Laura was a former member of the Moose. She was a Methodist by faith.
She enjoyed playing cards, doing wordsearches, putting puzzles together, and loved watching old westerns on TV. She also loved to travel and go on vacations with her family.
A viewing will be held at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville, on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Church Hill Cemetery.
