George W. Anderson Jr., 80, of McVeytown, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.
Born on Sept. 1, 1944, in Fort Smith, Ark., he was the beloved son of the late George W. Anderson, Sr. and Josephine Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Anderson, and his daughter, Tammy Berrier.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Marlene (Craig) Anderson, whom he married in 1987. He also leaves behind his son, David Anderson and wife, Roberta; daughters, Kathryn Cortese and husband, Dennis, Dana Petrosky, and Lorre Dew; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A 1962 graduate of Greensburg-Salem High School, George went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A dedicated entrepreneur, he owned and operated several businesses throughout his life, most recently Wilson Tire and Auto, until his retirement.
George will be fondly remembered for his passion for the outdoors, especially hunting, his deep love for dogs, and his commitment to community through his active involvement in the Rotary Club of Lewistown.
A memorial service celebrating George's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at McVeytown Presbyterian Church, 5 N. Queen Street, McVeytown, with Pastor Buddy Baird officiating. Private interment with full military honors will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
The Anderson family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Memory Lane at Valley View, and to George's dear friends Yuzuka Hirosawa, John Rogers, and Anthony from The Cookie Jar, whose friendship and support meant so much.
