Chester ‘Chet’ R. Phillips

Chester "Chet" R. Phillips, 97, of Milroy, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 1, 1928, in Milroy, to the late Guy Ranzel Phillips and Adalene Rebecca (Reed) Phillips Eichenberger. On Oct. 18, 1947, he married S. Virginia "Ginny" (Lewis) Phillips, who preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2001.

Surviving are a daughter: Carolyn "Cookie" Dillon and husband, Robert, of Milroy; two grandsons: Shawn Dillon, of Lewistown, Douglas Dillon and wife, Courtney, of Port Matilda; two great-grandchildren: Sophie V. Dillon and Caden R. Dillon, of Port Matilda; and a special sister-in-law: Myrna Lewis, of Milroy.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Genevieve King and a brother, Quention R. Phillips. He was the last of his immediate family.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 as a Sergeant in Japan. He was first employed by Martin Mariettia, which then became Standard Lime and Cement in Pleasant Gap.

He was a member of Schrader United Methodist Church, the Milroy American Legion and a lifetime member of AAA.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing Santa for the Milroy Fire Company for many years. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. Burial will be held at the Salem Cemetery, Milroy.
