Jody Ranck, a scholar, world traveler, and devoted father, died peacefully at his home in Chevy Chase, Md., after a life rich in learning and exploration. He was 60.
Born Oct. 14, 1964, in Lewistown, he was the son of Jerauld Ranck and the late Blossom Ranck of Mifflintown. He graduated from the Juniata High School in 1983, Jody earned a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree in economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. His career spanned global health, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence.
Fluent in French and Italian and a student of many other languages, Jody lived in Italy, Tunisia, Spain, Bangladesh, and Rwanda, and traveled to more than 40 countries. He was an accomplished endurance athlete who ran marathons and triathlons and was a passionate open-water swimmer who competed in the Escape from Alcatraz swim in San Francisco Bay.
Jody also loved cooking, fine wine, and sharing meals to celebrate life and culture.
He is survived by his son, Masara Busette-Ranck; his father, Jerauld Ranck; his brother, Joel Ranck and sister-in-law, Gisell Ranck; and his nephews, Noah and Yilmer Ranck. He was formerly married to Camille Busette, with whom he shared the joy of raising their son.
Jody will be remembered for his intellect, adventurous spirit, and the warmth and curiosity he brought to every corner of the world he touched.
