Barbara Aurand passed away May 23 at the Valley View Retirement Center, Belleville. She was the wife of the late James M. Aurand.
Barbara Louise Hook was born Feb 28, 1929, to Sara Lauver and Clayton Hook in Burnham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Max Hook, step-father Calvin Kearns and step-brothers Bill and Don Kearns.
She is survived by her children, Sally and Gary Ryan of Gettysburg, and Craig and Ruth Aurand of Kandiyohi, Minn. Her joy were her grandchildren, Andrew C. and Danielle Miller, Hill AFB, of Utah, Eleanor and Ashlin Miller, of Media, Emily and Matthew Elfritz, St. Paul, Minn. and Eric and Kaitlin Aurand, Champlin, Minn. She cherished her 10 great- grandchildren.
Barbara grew up in Burnham until moving to the farm in Glenwood. She was active in 4-H, raising beef cattle; she graduated from Derry High School in 1947. Barbara and Jim were married on Feb. 18, 1951. They farmed on Big Ridge raising beef cattle and poultry. She was very active in the poultry and egg production. In later years they raised vegetables, especially tomatoes. She helped to organize the Golden Mile Farmer's market where she enjoyed marketing tomatoes.
Barbara was very involved in Ellen Chapel church where she sang in the choir and helped with church events especially chicken barbecues. She was a member of Fort Granville Grange and the PA State Grange where she served in a number of leadership and community service roles. Barbara will be remembered as an excellent cook, loving Mother and Grandmother.
There will be a viewing held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday May 29, 2025, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, with Pastor Mark Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rock Cemetery.
