John Brockett Jr.

John Brockett Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025. He was born on July 6, 1930, in Atlantic City, NJ, to the late John Sr. and Edith (Coughlin) Brockett. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary "Mae" Brockett, in 2011.

John is survived by his eight children: John E. Brockett III (Cindy), Ken Brockett (Cindy), Scott Brockett (Debra), Daniel Brockett (Kay), Mark Brockett (Jenny), Teena Erway (Doe), Betty Sacksteder (Chris), and Penny Brockett. He was a proud grandfather to 24 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred Brockett of Doylestown and Bill Brockett of Marco Island, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathrine Joslin.

John earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Rutgers University. He served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career with Penn State's Agricultural Extension. He started as an assistant county agent in Potter County, before moving to Lewistown, where he worked as an area management specialist and a professor at Penn State.

After retiring from PSU, he transitioned to Independent Farm Management Consulting and Tax Preparation. Dedicated to his work, he spent much of his time reading, farming, and supporting agricultural outreach, including the Mifflin County canning project.

Alongside his wife, Mae, John founded Brockett's Farm Market, where they sold homegrown fruits and vegetables. In later years, he took special pride in his blueberry patch, which he cultivated from New Jersey bushes, for over 40 years.

A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, John's faith guided his life.

A private service will be held at the family's convenience.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Central PA World Hunger Association, P.O. Box 76, Belleville, PA 17004, or the Mifflin County Library, 123 N. Wayne St, Lewistown, PA 17044.
