Anthony F. "Tony" Gangemi, 83, of Lewistown, passed away on Saturday. March 29, 2025 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Dec. 12, 1941, in Jersey City, N.J., Tony was the beloved son of the late Frank and Jennie (Stroscio) Gangemi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Gangemi.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Tony is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Navalance) Gangemi, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1964. He leaves behind his daughters, Janis Marie Van Sant of Philadelphia and Amy Sara Fasano and her husband John, of Lancaster, along with his adored grandchildren, Emily Van Sant, Gianna Fasano, and Antonino Fasano. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Heiser, and her husband, Joseph, of Pompton Plains, N.J.
Tony was a dedicated businessman and a familiar face in the community. Together with his wife, he owned and operated Western Auto and the Sears Catalog Stores in Burnham. His career with Sears spanned 31 years, a testament to his hard work and commitment. Most recently, he was employed at Michael's Sales and Service in Lewistown.
A man of many passions, Tony had an enduring love for cars. He found joy in traveling to Watkins Glen for races and treasured his Saturday morning gatherings with his "car club" friends. Earlier in life, he was an active member of Lewistown Kiwanis, serving as a past president, and took great pride in participating in pistol competitions.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 1 p.m. at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Mike Bailey officiating.
Following the service, a funeral procession will pass by Tony's home one final time before proceeding to Lind Memorial Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony.
In honor of Tony's generous spirit, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
