Peggy A. (Lyter) Abbott, 96, of Lewistown, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Born on Aug. 14, 1928, in Lewistown, Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Jerry and Jessie Shimp Kauffman-Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee G. Lyter, in 1992, and her second husband, James K. "Jim" Abbott, in 2018, as well as her son, Milton Brandt III.
Peggy's legacy of love and devotion continues through her children, Cheryl Searer and her husband, Dan, of Prescott, Ariz., and her son, Gary Lyter, of Manhattan Beach, Calif. She was a cherished grandmother to Kelly Coburn, Christine Rogers and her husband, Mark, and Katrina, Roxanne, Bryce, Camille, Leigh, Jesse, and Trey Lyter. Her joy extended to her great-grandchildren, Megan Coburn, Ethan Coburn and his wife, Brooke, and Josh Rogers and his wife, Katie, and Emilee Rogers, as well as her four great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored.
A woman of deep faith, Peggy was a devoted member of Ellen Chapel Church. She was well-known in the community, having owned and operated Peggy Ann Dress Shop as well as working at Noerr Motor Freight both in Lewistown. Always active and full of life, she was a dedicated member of the Juniata Valley YMCA, where she swam with the "mermaids". Even in her later years, she found great joy in the mountains, embracing the adventure of hunting. Above all, Peggy's greatest pride and joy was her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggy's life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to King Funeral Home and Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville.
In honor of Peggy's memory, contributions may be made to Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.
