Irene R. Bawel, 91, of Belleville, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at her home.
She was born on July 29, 1933, in Belleville, to the late John R. and Elsie R. (Peachey) Peachey. On Nov. 5, 1953, she married John Y. Bawel, who resides at their home.
Along with her husband, she is survived by children: Jesse A. Bawel and wife, Lora, of Selinsgrove, Ruth E. Ritchey and husband, W. Scott, of Belleville, Sarah Cohen and husband, Paul ,of Apex, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Lois Peachey, of Belleville.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, an infant brother, and an infant sister. She was the last of her immediate family.
Irene was primarily a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm for many years.
She was a member of Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, where she served as a deacon's wife and Sunday school teacher. She served the Lord faithfully and was a devoted prayer warrior.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, gardening, and entertaining family and friends. She was always very involved with caring for her husband and her family.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church. There will also be a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with Revs. John M. Keefer and James Plank officiating. Burial will be held at Locust Grove Cemetery in Belleville.
