Cindy L. Mattern

Cindy L. Mattern, 70, of Reedsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and caregivers at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cindy was a 1972 graduate of the Rothrock campus of Penn Highlands High school where she made many fond memories as a majorette, even twirling fire batons!
She began her career working for the Army Corps of Engineers assisting in relief efforts after the flood of ’72 where she serendipitously made the connection that would lead her to her lifelong career with The Mifflin County Housing Authority. Originally hired as a secretary, she spent many of her 43 years as the Director, working with the community.
Among her proudest achievements she listed the restoration of the Coleman House, her many years working closely with The Shelter Service, serving on the Mifflin County Planning Commission, and working closely with members of our community.
Cindy loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, live music, long lunches, rides in the mountains, and furthering her imagination.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Earl Peters; her nephew, Troy Peters; and her father and mother-in-law, Harold (Bill) and Ruth Mattern.
She was a beloved wife to Randy; mother to Kevin, Lisa and her husband, Jeremy Hayes, and Sophie, her well-spoiled dog; aunt to a dear niece, Sheila Kepner, who she thought of as a daughter; and family John, Rylie, and Braylen. Stepdaughter of Charlene Peters; sister to Robert (Bob) Peters and wife, Judy; and sister-in-law to Dennis (Denny) Mattern.
One of her greatest joys was being Nana to granddaughters, Bella and Aubrey, who she loved and spoiled in equal measure.
She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Cindy’s memory can be made to The Shelter Service of Mifflin and Juniata County: https://www.paypal.com/ donate/?hosted_button_id =VUHXSSQAN6YSU&sou rce=qr or Rescue Our Furry Friends (ROFF): https://roffrescue.org/do nate/.
Cindy chose to donate her body to science in an effort to help advance learning and, hopefully, help others fighting cancer. Due to her wishes, there will be no public services.
