Albert R. Thawley, 80, of Richfield, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born on Dec. 13, 1944 in Chester, Delaware County, he is the son of the late Albert and Rosemary (Houghton) Thawley.
On Nov. 4, 1967, he married his surviving wife, Eleanor (Durkin) Thawley, with whom he was blessed to share more than 57 years of marriage before his passing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, A. Robert Thawley and his wife, Dr. Mandy Maneval, of Richfield, Anne-Maureen Thawley Heister and her husband, D. Robert Heister, of Cocolamus, Kevin James Thawley and his wife, Maura, of Port Royal, and Joan Rosellen Thawley Metallo of Enola; ten grandchildren, Ivan Thawley, Nicholas Heister and wife, Savannah, Jared Heister and wife, Hannah, Albert Heister, and Daniel, Breeanna, Alexandria, Emmett, Madelyn, and Miranda Metallo; and three great grandchildren, Theodore Heister, Lyra Edmiston, and Baelynn Heister.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Abigail and Aaron Thawley and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Thawley.
Mr. Thawley was a 1962 graduate of Salesianum High School in Wilmington, Del. and honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 where he was stationed in Germany.
Albert was employed and retired as a Supervisor with Congoleum Industries in Marcus Hook.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Mifflintown where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and had obtained his 4th Degree.
His hobbies included being outdoors, where in earlier life he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, hunting, fishing, camping, attending auctions, traveling from Canada to Florida to Vegas to the State of Washington to Alaska and to Ireland; however, he cherished family life and gatherings with his grandchildren and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 3918 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown with the Rev. Joshua Cavender officiating. Interment will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. Patrick Cemetery, 460 N. Union St., Kennett Square, PA 19348 where military burial honors will be accorded.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Thawley's memory can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101
