Walter Sheldon "Shell" Spickler, 77, passed away on Feb. 6, 2025, in Lewistown.
Born July 15, 1947 to the late Walter E. and Helen M. Spickler, of McVeytown. Walter graduated from Rothrock Area High School in 1965 and continued his education at Thompson Institute. He served both full and part-time in the National Guard in Pennsylvania and Florida. With more than 20 years dedicated military service, Walter retired in 1989 from the HHC, 728th Main Support Battalion in Lock Haven.
Beyond his military career, Walter also spent more than 30 years as a truck driver. Walter found joy in fishing and beekeeping and he enjoyed playing music in various bands.
Walter is survived by his brother, Ron Spickler and wife, Betty; his son, William and wife, Ann; grandchildren Brenden, Benjamin, and Makenna; a daughter, Michelle, and grandchildren Elizabeth, RJ, Alexandra, and Katelynn; and a daughter, Jeanna, and grandchildren Kylie, Piper, and John Patrick. He was preceeded in death by his brother, P. Keith Spickler and sisters, Linda (Spickler) Fisher and Brenda (Spickler) Swigart. He was also blessed by nieces and nephews, too numerous to count, who remember him fondly.
A celebration of life will be considered at the family's discretion. Any contributions on his behalf can be made to the Disabled American Veteran's or the Special Olympics that Walter contributed to yearly.
