Clare Ann (Rhoades) Gilbert, 84, of Reedsville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025 at home.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1940 in Reedsville, to the late Frank L. and Rosetta M. (Conaway) Rhoades. On Feb. 9, 1960, she married John A.C. Gilbert, who survives at their home.
Along with her husband, she is survived by children: David J. Gilbert and wife, Karen, of Belleville, Frank W. Gilbert of Lewistown, Keith N. Gilbert and wife, Susan, of Lewistown, Lacy T. Gilbert Carmany and husband, Jason, of Lewistown; six grandchildren: Amanda Spurlock of Belleville, Joshua Gilbert and wife, Rachel, of Columbus, OH, Levi Gilbert of Lewistown, Breanna, Vanessa and Mikayla Carmany, all of Lewistown; two great-grandchildren: Parker Spurlock of Belleville, Eleanor Gilbert of Columbus, OH. She was also survived by special nieces and nephews: Shawn, Rose, Cheyenne, and Marissa Coudriet, and Ryan Romig, all of Lewistown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Louella Coudriet and an infant sister, Kathryn Louise Rhoades. She was the last of her immediate family.
She graduated from Armagh-Brown High School in 1958. Over the years, she worked for American Viscose Corp, J & D Bus Company, Fishers Brothers Bus Company, and was co-owner of Gilbert's Truck Repair, Milroy. In between jobs, she served as a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy. She served as a fill-in organist and pianist at the church, and also served on church council.
She enjoyed sketching and painting and even attended Penn State for a semester studying graphic design. She enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing her walk with God. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 at noon at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville, with Vicar Ruth Ann Kephart and Rev. Mike Sigler officiating. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.
