Darrell L. Campbell, 78, of Lewistown, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 12, 2024, while on vacation in Florida with his family.
Born on Oct. 28, 1946, in Lewistown, Darrell was the son of the late James and Alice (McMaster) Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Runkle, and his brothers, Richard and James Campbell.
Darrell is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Anna (Platzer) Campbell, whom he married on April 23, 1983. He is also survived by his son, Darrell Campbell, and wife, Nichole, of Beavertown; his cherished granddaughter, Kaitlyn Campbell; and his sisters, Carol Troutman and Alice Elder (husband Butch), both of Lewistown.
Darrell attended Lewistown First Church of the Brethren. He dedicated much of his life to the Lewistown City Hook & Ladder, serving as both a firefighter and a bartender for many years.
A passionate sports fan, Darrell enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Penn State Nittany Lions. In his free time, he loved fishing, completing puzzles, and cooking. One of his greatest joys was traveling to the Indianapolis 500 annually with Anna. Above all, his granddaughter, Katie, held a special place in his heart.
A funeral service honoring Darrell's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, with Pastor Craig Gandy officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Juniata Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Darrell's memory are encouraged to be made to Lewistown City Hook & Ladder, 317 Valley St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
