Orvis E. ‘Orvie’ Rowles Sr.

Orvis E. “Orvie” Rowles Sr., 78, of Thompsontown passed away on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Lewistown.

Born on Sept. 8, 1946, in Clearfield, he was a son of the late Orvis M. and Eleanor (Lenhart) Rowles. On June 17, 1967, he married Susan (Mitchell) Rowles, with whom he shared nearly 45 years of marriage before her passing on June 2, 2012.

Orvie is survived by a son, Orvis Rowles Jr. and wife Diane, a brother Nelson Rowles and wife MaryJane, and grandchildren Sarah Rowles and Ryan Leister.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachelle Rowles, in-laws Rudolph and Helen Mitchell, and brother-in-law Frank Mitchell.

After graduation from Clearfield High School, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was employed as a salesman in the food sales and supply industry, retiring from iMark of PA.

Prior to his decline in health, Orvie was an avid and accomplished golfer. He was a past member of Lost Creek Golf Club, where he had also previously served as a board member. In earlier life, he had been a member of the Thompsontown Lions Club, the J. E. Bowen AmVETS Post 122, and had volunteered with both the Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Company and the Thompsontown Ambulance League. If he was not playing or watching golf, he enjoyed trips to the casino and watching football.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall Street, McAlisterville, PA on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the Historic Crown Crest Cemetery, Clearfield, Pa.
