William E. ‘Troupy’ Troup Jr.

William E. "Troupy" Troup, Jr., 96, formerly of Millerstown, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.

William was born on March 18, 1928, in Seven Stars, Juniata County, a son of the late William E. and Kathryn (Dressler) Troup, Sr. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Olive L. (Losch) Troup. They recently celebrated a remarkable milestone of 76 years of marriage.

As a young boy, William attended Center Elementary School. He graduated from Millerstown High School. William was co-owner along with his brother and sister of their family's business, Troup Brothers and Benner Store. The family business was started by William's great-grandfather, and continuously operated for over 104 years.

He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, and also helped to build the church.

His compassion for those less fortunate allowed him to help people in their time of need. He and Olive generously canned over 90 quarts of peaches every year and baked dozens of cookies to share and visit with those less fortunate in their homes and nursing homes.

William enjoyed spending precious time with his family at their family cabin he and his brother-in-law, John Losch, built with land they owned along Cocolamus Creek. He built a surrey, along with Olive's hand of decorating it, to take their grandchildren for rides while visiting. His most precious moments were when his great-grandchildren would visit him. Those visits were always appreciated and made him extremely happy.

He is survived by his wife, Olive; children: George E. (Mary) Troup of Howard, Mary T. (Jeff) Miller of Millerstown, and William E. (Beth) Troup, III of Harrisburg; grandchildren: Joshua (Companion, Denise) Troup, Olivia (Mike) Whitehill, Nicole (Paul) Condon, Ross (Amber) Miller, Sadie Troup, and Will Troup; and four precious great-grandchildren.

William is preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Lenus Troup; and sister, Wilma Benner.

Services will be held at a later date.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853.
