James R. "Jim" Bender, 78, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, joining his Lord and Savior.
Born on Jan. 20, 1946, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James and Frances (Yetter) Bender. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bender, and his infant granddaughter, Tristan.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gloria J. (Shirk) Bender, whom he married on April 23, 1966. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, James "Michael" Bender and wife, Jean, of Mechanicsburg, and Angela Rickert and husband, Craig, of Lewistown, his siblings, Judy Romig, and David Bender and wife, Penny, all of Lewistown. Jim was a proud grandfather to Brittany, Zachary, Matthew, Riley, and Hunter and a cherished great-grandfather to Kamari, Teej, and Cayden.
A dedicated patriot, Jim served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. Jim was also known for his skills in woodworking, his ability to fix anything, and was a lifetime member of the Lewistown City Hook & Ladder. Above all, he treasured his family, who brought him the greatest joy.
A private graveside service will be held at Juniata Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Stephanie Rupert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown.
