Edward Benner

Edward Benner, 93, of Boalsburg, died Oct. 28, 2024 at home.
Born Feb. 15, 1931, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Russell Benner and the late Helen Spearly Benner.
On Sept. 3, 1960 at Grove Memorial Church in Lewistown, he married the late Donna Jane (Rittenhouse) Benner.
Surviving are two children, Timothy Edward Benner and his wife, Marcy Jo, of Watsontown and Matthew Russell Benner and his wife, Nicole, of Mount Wolf; grand-daughter Madison Jean Benner of Mount Wolf; and sister Helen Eckley of Bellefonte.
He was preceded in death by sisters Louise Lindsay of Linesville, Dorothy Hall of State College and Thelma Witmer of Centre Hall, and brothers Richard Benner of Centre Hall, Joe Benner of Zion and Thomas Benner of Filmore.
He was a graduate of Bellefonte High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of The Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement in 1993, he was employed for 40 years with the former M. L. Clasters and Sons where he held several positions over the years; the last before retirement was Vice President of Branch Operations of 11 stores.
Edward was a member of the State College Elks as well as a member of the Harris Township Lions and a member of the Mount Nittany Methodist Church where he was active in the Counsel of Administration, Chairman of Finance and served on other committees such as the Pastor Parish Committee and the Building Committee.
Edward loved the outdoors and enjoyed landscaping and growing flowers, spending time with family, neighbors and church friends as well as visiting the “family tent” at Grange Fair every year and trips to the family cottage at Whipple Dam.
The family would like to add their appreciation for all of the caregivers over the years from Home Instead and most recently 365 Hospice.
Funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 1, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Rd, State College.
Burial will be private in Boalsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E Branch Rd, State College, PA 16801 in memory of Edward Benner.
