Byron R. ‘Buffalo’ Hoyer

Byron R. “Buffalo” Hoyer, 84, of Port Royal and formerly of Reading, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at his residence.

Born on Nov. 21, 1939, in Reading, Berks County, he is the son of the late Arthur A. and Charlotte E. (Bader) Hoyer.

He is survived by one daughter, Julie A. (Hoyer) Berry and her husband, Frank A. Berry, of Reading; two grandchildren: Timothy A. Berry and Chelsea K. Berry; three great grandchildren: Sophie M. Bailey, Brenyn P. Bailey, and Matthew E. Bailey; and one sister, Dorothy L. Hoyer of Lititz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur A. Hoyer, Jr.

Byron was a 1957 graduate of Wilson High School in Sinking Spring and was employed and retired as an Over the Road Truck Driver.

Byron was a member of the Tuscarora Heritage Days Tractor Club in East Waterford.

In earlier life, he enjoyed following his friend, Donald Kreitz and Donald Kreitz Racing and, more recently, raised buffalo on his farm.

His hobbies included working on model railroads, snowmobiling, and farming where his passion was working with land and being outdoors.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. Interment will be private in the Fairview Cemetery, Shillington, Berks County.

A viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral services on Monday at the funeral home.
