Wilmer E. Myer

Wilmer E. Myer, 87, from McAlisterville, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus on Sept. 24, 2024. He was born on June 2, 1937, in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Wilmer was much loved by his wife and family, but it didn't stop there, he had friends and neighbors everywhere he went. In fact, it is true that Wilmer knew no strangers, because he would introduce himself and within a minute or two find a connection and the stranger would move to the acquaintance/friend category. His years of living in different areas of Pennsylvania, Ontario, and Florida has afforded his people-loving heart much opportunity for expanding his friendship circle. These people loved Wilmer for the stories he told and for his unabated humor. Unabated because both the stories and humor were present even through the most recent weeks of his life. As his health declined in the last couple years, cheerfulness and courage were displayed as he became more dependent on those around him. His faith in Jesus did not waver and his longing to be with Jesus was not something that he hid from those close to him. Both faith and longing to be with Jesus only increased as he said goodbye to his wife of nearly 68 years just 6 months before he died. Wilmer is survived by eight children, Glenn (Dianne) Myer, Judy (Abe) Krahn, Karen (Terry) Gerber, David (Laurie) Myer, Mark (Lois) Myer, Nathan (Sandee) Myer, Mariellen (Brent) Rosenberry, and Jesse (Carol) Myer; 36 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Blanche) Myer; and sister-in-law, Lonita Englehart. Wilmer is predeceased by his wife, Martha (Herr) Myer; his parents, Willard and Ruth Myer; sister, Almeda (Mahlon) Shenk; brother, Dale Myer; daughter-in-law, Betty (Glenn) Myer; and infant grandson, Curtis Gerber.
