Ruth Ann (Waggoner) Baggus, age 89, of Belleville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born in West Reading, Pa., on June 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. and Ruth (Bretz) Waggoner. On Oct. 5, 1958, she married Donald E. Baggus, who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2011. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Laura Baggus.
Ruth Ann is survived by her children: Darrell E. Baggus of Arvada, Colo. and Cheryl Jeschke and husband, Eric of Lewisberry, Pa.; grandchildren: Donald E. Baggus II, Melissa R. Fatzinger and husband, Koltin, Kiera Jeschke Shreiber and husband, Scott, Dana Jeschke Duncan and husband, Clayton and Evan Jeschke and fiancÈ, Kate Krieger; great-grandchildren: Riley and Reagan Fatzinger; nieces and nephew: Barb Parke and husband, Frank, Richard Baggus and wife, Linda, Kim Baggus, and Carol Durland and dear friend Shana Yoder.
Ruth Ann was a graduate of the Harrisburg Institute of Medical Arts and held a degree in Medical Assisting. She held various jobs over the years. Most notably, she was a remarkable woman who balanced her role as a homemaker while assisting her husband with the operations of the Baggus Funeral Home in Belleville for over 50 years.
Ruth Ann's love for people and her knack for making friends easily were a treasured gift. She was quick to offer a smile and was known for her cheerful laughter. She enjoyed going out to eat, visiting with friends, putting puzzles together, antiquing, reading, and sending cards to friends and family. She was a passionate animal lover and avid collector of teddy bears. Family gatherings with food, games and vibrant conversations were always a highlight for her. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to Disney World, Colorado, Wildwood Crest, and Alaska. She was adored by her grandchildren. Her love was a guiding force in their lives, instilling values of kindness, generosity and the importance of cherishing each moment.
Ruth Ann was a member of the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church in Belleville, where she was a former member of the choir, Women's Association, and assisted with the community lunches hosted by the church. She was involved in numerous organizations including the Belleville Civic Club, Belleville Reading Club, was a former 'Reach to Recovery' volunteer for the American Red Cross.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, 3820 West Main Street, Belleville, and again on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at the Machpelah Cemetery, located adjacent to the church, Belleville.
