JoAnn M. Harlacher, 83, of Burnham, passed away on Tuesday Sept. 17, 2024 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 1, 1941, in Derry Township, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Druckenmiller) Seby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John (Rod) Harlacher on Jan. 15, 2003, her brother Michael Seby Jr., and an infant brother.
JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann Hazey and husband, Matthew, of Pine Grove Mills, and Elizabeth Ann Surowiec and husband, Brian, of Dayton, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Abigail, Annabella, and Jonathan Hazey, and also Scarlett and Alexander Surowiec, along with several nieces, nephews and close friends.
JoAnn was a graduate of Chief Logan High school and graduated from Maryland Medical Secretarial School in Hagerstown, MD. JoAnn was a devoted member of the former Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Burnham, where she faithfully served on the St. Mary's Women's Guild, dedicating her time to fostering fellowship and service. Her lifelong involvement with the Girl Scouts, including her role as leader, touched the lives of many young women. She also served as the Day Camp Director for Girl Scout Camp at Kish Park. Her community spirit was further evident in her tireless efforts fundraising for the American Heart Association, demonstrating her commitment to helping others. Earlier in her career, JoAnn worked as a medical transcriptionist in the operating room at Lewistown Hospital where she was the first person in the role at this hospital. Later in life, she was employed at Burger King in Burnham, where she brought her kindness and hard work to everyone she encountered. JoAnn took great joy in spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and close friends. She adored Matt and Brian, loving them as her own sons. A warm neighbor, she was cherished by those around her for her generous spirit and welcoming nature. In her free time, she pursued her passion for antiquing and gardening. She never missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren's activities and sporting events, she was always their biggest fan. Her legacy of love, service and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A public viewing for friends and family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 21, 2024 at King-Barr Funeral Home, LLC, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 22, 2024 at the funeral home with her dear friend, Pastor Randy Traxler officiating. Burial services will follow at Birch Hill Cemetery.
