The family of Madilene M. Henry, 82, of Mifflintown (Licking Creek), would like to share news of her passing on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024.
Madilene was born on March 23, 1942, in Licking Creek, Juniata County, the daughter of the late Earl and Mae (Dunn) Zimmerman. On July 2, 1961, Madilene married her late husband, Dale E. Henry, with whom she was blessed with over 60 years of marriage before Dale's passing in 2022.
In the years that followed their union, the couple blossomed from a family of two into a family of many. She is survived by her children, Sharon Miller and her husband, Dennis, Wendy Kirk and her late husband, Steve, Ken Henry and his wife, Michelle, and Angie Dunn and her husband, Darrin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mandy Martin and her husband, Justin, Cory Miller and his wife, Nykki, Chad Kirk and his wife, Teagan, Caleb Kirk, Brittany Casner and her husband, Nicholas, Benjamin Dunn and his wife, Gloria, and Courtney Bogar and her husband, Lars; and eight great- grandchildren, Madison Reinecker and her husband, Joshua, Christopher Martin, Joshua Martin, Rory Kirk, Colton Dunn, Cameron Dunn, Marshall Bogar, and Emersyn Casner. Madilene is further survived by her sister Cookie Junod and her husband, Robert, her sister-in-law, Doris (Henry) Armstrong, and many generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Madilene is preceded in death by three brothers, Marlin Zimmerman, Art Zimmerman, and Glenn Zimmerman, and one sister Esther (Zimmerman) Brackbill. Madilene was a 1960 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown.
Following her marriage, she embraced the role of housewife, raising her children and arguably her husband alike. She was a member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Maple Grove Sunday School. Madilene spent countless hours on her porch enjoying the perks of Licking Creek Valley, namely watching the many migratory birds that passed through. The porch often fell quiet when a hummingbird perched on the feeder, a feeder meticulously maintained. The family and friends that frequented the porch learned not to startle these small birds, and in that same manner, Madilene taught us some of her most valuable lessons – to hold still for just a moment, to find peace in simplicity, and to enjoy life's smallest blessings. We will remember Madilene as a loving mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother; a kind sister and aunt; a constant friend and reassuring voice. She proudly celebrated every achievement -- every sporting event, every concert, and every graduation, every friendship, every marriage, and every birth.
Madilene's funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024 at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the adjoining St. Stephen's Church Cemetery.
