Dean E. Workinger

Dean E. Workinger, 94, formerly of Milroy, passed away at 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewistown.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1929 in Lewistown to the late Clayton J. and Edna H. (Fultz) Workinger.

He is survived by his son by choice, Terry J. Willoughby and wife, Sheila A., of Milroy. He is also survived by four nieces and four nephews: Sandy Bowen and husband, Richard, Diane Murphy and husband, John, Terry Ernest and companion, Marsha Goldman, Nelson Ernest, Richard Yearick and wife, Marsha, Sherry Ritchey and husband, Dennis, Robert Workinger and wife, Elka, Stacey Falkner and husband, Scott, as well as 14 great nieces and great nephews and numerous special great-great nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings: Ima Bender, Betty Narehood, Jean Ernest, Glenn Workinger, a niece, Debbie Barnes and a nephew, Clayton Workinger. He was the last of his immediate family.

He graduated in May, 1947 from Milroy High School. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from April 1952 to April 1954. He retired from the Standard Steel after 42 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 287 in Milroy for 33 years and the Yeagertown Fire Company for 22 years.

In earlier years, he enjoyed gardening and processing apples from his orchard, so much so, that family and close friends affectionately nicknamed him "Snitz". He also raised cattle for a number of years and his favorite cow was "Red".

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
