Michael S. McCavitt, 65, of 106 Flamingo Drive, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Reedsville, passed through the heavenly gates on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from cancer.
To meet him there were his parents, Mary Ruth (McCartney) and John Joseph McCavitt. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anna Marie McCavitt, who left a piece of her heart and spirit with him and he will be able to hold her in his arms again.
On April 9, 1988, he married Cindy A. (Michael) McCavitt, who survives. They were married for 36 years, growing and molding their family together. Being raised Catholic and raising the children the same. He showed the love and the spirit of our Lord, always keeping the faith and praying for strength to help guide his family through the dark times. He was a guiding light, our mentor, our love. Our light has dimmed but will grow stronger as we all pray for the happiness he has now in the arms of our Lord. Heaven has a new angel, his name is Michael.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Kelsey Lynn McCavitt and companion Chris McGee of Lemoyne, Pa., Johnathan Martin McCavitt of Mechanicsburg; one grandson, Sean C. McCavitt of Lemoyne, who was his driving force to live after his heart attack in 2017; siblings: Sharon Armstrong and husband, Ronald of Reedsville, Cynthia Eschenmann and husband Richard of Palmyra, Patric K. McCavitt and wife, Deborah of Bel-Air, Md.; and also many special nieces and nephews.
Michael gave them all a wonderful role model to follow. His undying love for his family was unwavering.
Michael was a 1976 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School. He also had a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University, Class of 1981.
Michael retired from Hershey Medical Center in 2017 after touching thousands of people over a 31 year span. His genuine love of people to make them laugh, will never be forgotten. He was a gift of life donor as well.
He loved many activities, his love of music and gift of playing touched many. He loved going bowling, golfing, and collecting musical instruments. He also loved teaching his children what loving and experiencing life really meant. His adventurous side, he loved ghost hunting, amusement parks and haunted houses, but spending time with his family was his main priority. His intelligence of so many things was incomprehensible. He loved history and was our own tour guide of Gettysburg. He knew everything about the Civil War.
His love for his family and the many friends will never be forgotten. He touched and changed the lives of many through his joking and laughter. Always wanting others to be happy, even through the unbearable pain he suffered for years. No one knew, he just wanted others to laugh and be happy. His gracious and loving soul will be carried on through his children and grandson. His precious soul was delivered to heaven with music playing and his family by his side.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville, PA. with Pastor John Reed officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 a 1 p.m. at his home, 106 Flamingo Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Burial will take place at a later date at Juniata Memorial Park.
