Vivian Ruth Richardson, of Mifflin, passed away May 24, 2024, at Brookline Retirement Village.
She was the daughter of the late Maxwell W. and Arlene H. (Yocum) Campbell. She was born April 12, 1944. Her family was blessed to have her for 80 years, 1 month and 12 days.
Vivian is survived by her three children, Gale M. (Burdge) Swartz and husband, Donnie of Mifflin, Maxwell H. Burdge and wife, Betty of Johnstown and Lisa M. Richardson of Mifflin. In addition to her children she was blessed with her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Vivian attended the Village Lighthouse Chapel when able. She enjoyed listening to Charles Stanley and Jimmy Swaggert on TV. In her early life, Vivian was a farm girl, working hard along side her mother and dad. She was a stay at home mom to her three children until 1975, when she went to work at Locust Grove Retirement Village. Vivian worked in housekeeping and became the supervisor of the housekeeping and laundry divisions prior to her retirement in 1990. Vivian had a great love for the residents and made lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers.
Her greatest joy came from being with her family. She always went the extra mile for her children and grandchildren. Holidays and birthdays were always fun and special times. Vivian took great pride in decorating and cleaning her home. She loved flowers and gardening, a love she inherited from her grandmothers. She was an avid sunbather and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Cowans Gap State Park and Little Buffalo State Park. Her favorite vacation was at the beach in Ocean City Maryland. Vivian leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street Mifflintown with Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Nook.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Vivian's memory may be made to The Village Lighthouse Chapel, 16378 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills, PA 17213.
