Having valiantly battled MS for three decades, and then cancer as well, Tim, 59, could fight no more. He was known for his bravery in the face of much adversity, for his quick wit, and for his dedication to raising money to support the Susquehanna Service Dogs organization. Tim's own beloved service dog "Magic," never left his side in earlier years.
Born in Lewistown, Tim was the son of Donald "Smit" Smith and R. Darlene (Houtz) Smith of Mifflintown. He attended East Juniata High School, and his passions included playing golf when he still could, particularly at the Lost Creek Golf Course; Penn State football and music. The Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett topped the list.
In addition to his parents, Tim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jan (Johnston) Smith of Mifflintown, brothers Mark (Sandy) Smith, and Joel (Rhonda) Smith, all of Millersburg. Also surviving are: sister-in-law Diane (Adam) Leos of State College; and brothers-in-law James Johnston of Pine Grove Mills and David Johnston of Canyon Lake, T.X. Nephews: Hayden (Briana) Smith of Millersburg; Branson Smith of Millersburg; and Tyrell (Coco) Patton of Woburn, Mass. Nieces: McKenzie Smith and fiance Andrew Kramer of Georgetown, Ky.; and Alexandra (Devin) Buzard of Prospect, Pa. Great-nephew: Barrett Smith of Millersburg. Great-nieces: Harper, Maddox and Reagan Smith of Millersburg; Lola Patton of Woburn, Mass.; and Genevieve and Giuliana Buzard of Prospect, Pa.
The family particularly wants to acknowledge current caregivers Lori, Heather and Rebecca, as well as the many other committed caregivers over the years who made it possible for Tim to be cared for at home.
A viewing will be held at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 24, with the funeral directly after. Per Tim's request, attire should be casual and if possible, tie-dyed or Penn State-related!
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susquehanna Service Dogs, 1078 Gravel Hill Road, Grantville, PA 17028.
