James B. "Jim" Hagerty, 72, of Lewistown, passed away on Monday May 13, 2024 at Celebration Villa of Reedsville after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born May 8, 1952 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Stewart) Hagerty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Wilson) Hagerty, and a brother, Thomas Hagerty.
Jim is survived by his children, Kerry Ann (Hagerty) Schultz and husband Chuck, of Lewistown, and Jason C. Hagerty, of Lewistown, grandchildren, Hannah Laboon (Corey), Jacob Schultz (Xindi), Jonah Schultz (Hannah Ritchey), and Dylan and Reece Hagerty, great grandchildren, Bai and Samson Schultz, and his siblings, Michael Hagerty (Lori Miller), of Burnham, Edward Hagerty and wife Linda, of Enola, and Joanne Mercer and husband Michael, of Salisbury, MD
Jim was a passionate English teacher within Mifflin County School District for over 34 years, mainly at Kishacoquillas High School, where he served as a basketball coach for many years. He was a member of HawkWatch, and earlier in life enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a sharp gambler, whether it was horses, cards, or sports. He will be remembered for his silent generosity, and the ability of being both the funniest and most intelligent person in any room that he walked into.
A memorial service in loving memory of Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday May 23, 2024 at King Funeral Home and Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville, with Chaplain Rebecca Shuster officiating. There will be a time of visitation held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will take place in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
