Harry G. Henry, 87, of Centre Hall, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Born on April 1, 1937, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Horace E. and Lodie M. (King) Henry. On May 16, 1958, he married Virginia Simonetti, who preceded him in death on October 27, 2016.
Harry graduated in 1956 from Armagh Brown High School in Milroy. After high school, he enlisted with the United States Navy. He earned the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the rank of Yeoman Third Class prior to his honorable discharge in June 1960. He was employed with Penn State University for about a year before he started his career with Cerro Metals. He retired after more than 35 years as a foreman in the shipping department. After retirement, he did electrical work at the Grange Fair Grounds and was a custodian for the Penns Valley School District until 2015.
Harry was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Spring Mills. He was among the first charter members at the church, joining on July 2, 1982. He was a lifetime member of the Centre Hall Fire Company and the Centre Hall Lions Club. He was also a member of the Bellefonte Moose and the Yeagertown Fire Company. He spent years calling out Bingo at the Johnson's Bingo Stand at the Grange Fair. He was an avid Penn State football and wrestling fan. He enjoyed spending time on the boat at Sayer's Dam and being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a hard worker his entire life. He loved his family and above all else, his grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by those that knew him and loved him.
Harry is survived by three children, Harry B. Henry and his wife, Kelly, of Centre Hall, Carol S. Stover and her husband, Lester, of Spring Mills, and Douglas S. Henry and his wife, Karen, of West Palm Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Chad Stover (Christina), Stephanie Stover-Kish (Christopher), Matthew Henry, Heidi Stover, Kristen Liddell (Gregory), Megan Henry, Ryan Henry, and Rebecca Henry; 12 great grandchildren, Nolan, Aliza, Mackenzie, Regan, Paige, Hunter, Dakota, Zion, Benjamin, Victoria, Sophia, and Ayana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife and parents, Harry was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur Henry, Pearl Filler, Fern Hartsock, Olive "Mae" Linthurst, and Mabel Palm.
A viewing will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Barbara Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Centre Hall. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Kateri's Catholic Church in Spring Mills with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the funeral mass. He will be laid to rest privately, next to his wife, at the Reformed & Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
