Donald Milton ‘Cork’ Nichols

Donald Milton "Cork" Nichols, 96, of Lewistown, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Celebration Villa of Reedsville. He lived his faith by his generosity, sweet spirit and his love for his family.

Born March 14, 1928, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Frances G. and Charlotte (Purcell) Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta E. (Reinard) Nichols, on Jan. 17, 2015, a son, Durke G. Nichols in 1991, and brothers, J. Marlin Nichols, and Neil Nichols.

Cork is survived by his children, Lisa Heckman and husband, Thomas, of Lewistown, Lorene Hoffnagle and husband, Jeffrey, of Camp Hill, and Londa Nichols and companion, Ricky Vasbinder, of Pittsburgh, five grandchildren, Courtney (Heckman) Mrs. Ben Morton, Brooke (Heckman) Mrs. Kerry Ashby, Dane Hoffnagle, fiancÈ, Samantha Federo, Rachel (Hoffnagle) Mrs. Jay Kamery, Lantz Heckman; and six great-grandchildren, Turner Ashby, Tate Ashby, Titus Ashby, Teagan Harris, Wailes Morton, and Connor Kamery, and his sister, Norma Hartman, of Lewistown.

He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1947 and honorably and faithfully served in The United States Army, from 1950-1952.

Cork was employed as an install technician, and repairman at the former Bell Telephone and Verizon Phone Company for 36 years. He was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Lewistown. He was a talented artist and a master joke teller and loved using his gifts and talents to help others. He enjoyed following local high school sports and watching his grandchildren participate in sports.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 Oak St, Lewistown, PA 17044, with Pastor Eric Marsteller officiating. There will be a visitation held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Private burial will take place in Juniata Memorial Park with Pastor Kari Swigart officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.

Cork's family would like to thank the staff at Celebration Villa, AseraCare Hospice, and Home Based Veterans for the wonderful care and compassion that was provided to their loved one and their family during the final days.
