Warren David "Zeke" Shaffer Sr., age 79, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Zeke was born on Oct. 23, 1944, in Lewisberry, Pa., the beloved son of Howard and Sophie Shaffer.
He proudly stood as a member of the inaugural graduating class of Cedar Cliff High School in 1962.
Before joining the U.S. Army, in 1964, Zeke worked for Harrisburg Steel. His military service during the Vietnam War was distinguished by several honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal with two Campaign Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, as well as recognition as a Marksman with both pistol and rifle, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. He served honorably and was discharged from Fort Bliss, T.X., in 1966.
Zeke's career as a flooring contractor was a small piece of his story. He went on to become a respected home builder. Not only did he build homes for others but also crafted his own family home. He was a Master Carpenter, a fine finish carpenter and a furniture maker, creating beautiful heirlooms such as a cherished grandfather clock. His remarkable ability to turn mere pictures into a masterpiece was unmatched. He lovingly passed many of his various talents on to his children.
Zeke is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Howard "Larry" Shaffer, Jr. and his sisters, Jacqueline Jumper and Anita Everhard. He leaves behind a loving family: his sons, Robert Shelton and Marchelle of Lewistown, Warren Shaffer Jr. of Harrisburg, James Meservy and Angela of Killeen, T.X., and Rick Shaffer and Maeci of Huntsville, Ala.; his daughter, Tina Charles and Marquise of York, Pa.; grandchildren Ashlee Dugan, Talysha and Dejour Hughes, Madison, Gage and Paislee Meservy, Adaline, Lucas and Samuel Shaffer; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Mills of Lewisberry, Pa., and his best friend, Kimberly Shaffer of Lewistown.
Upon his request, there will be no services. Please celebrate his life and carry your memories of him in your hearts. In honor of his precious dogs, Simon and Charlie, donations may be made to ROFF Rescue, P.O. Box 6, Lewistown, PA 17044.
