Mary E. Pheasant, 84, of Reedsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 14, 2024, surrounded by the people she loved most in the comfort of her own home. She was the beloved wife of the late George W. Pheasant before his passing in 2017. The couple shared 60 happy years of marriage and are finally together again dancing in each other's arms.
Born on Dec. 10, 1939, in Beaver Springs, she was a daughter of Earl R. and Emma G. (Herman) Swanger who preceded her in death. For more than 30 years, Mary worked making candy for Goss Candy and later, Asher's Chocolate. Over the years, she so graciously shared those sweet treats with her family and friends. Reading was a hobby that Mary shared with her family, constantly exchanging books with them. With her husband George, she enjoyed taking leisurely walks, and day-trip drives that took them both nowhere and everywhere. She also enjoyed playing cards and drinking tea with her friends. When her sisters came for visits, Mary's heart was full and blessed; she cherished the time they shared. Mary enjoyed knitting and teaching her granddaughters how to knit as well. She had eternal love for her family and took care of them in any way she could. Some of the greatest memories were around the table during holiday meals which included some of Mary's family favorites rice pudding and spice cake.
Mary is survived by her children, Steven M. Pheasant of Lewistown and Lori K. Haines and husband, James ''Chuck'' of Milroy; grandchildren, Alicia N. Schrann and husband, Kruz N. and Cara L. Sweigart and husband, Mitchell L.; great grandchildren, Sienna M. Schrann, Jameson G. Schrann, and Maddox L. Sweigart; and sisters, Cindy L. Weppler of Ohio and Shirley M. Quinn of California.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at King Funeral Home & Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville. The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. James Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at McClure Union Cemetery.
