Elizabeth Mae Peachey, 95, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Feb. 15, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born on Feb. 26, 1928, in Belleville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rufus A. and Annie L. (Zook) Peachey. Elizabeth attended Belleville Public School. She was baptized in her youth upon her confession of faith and was a faithful member of the Gortner Amish Church. She was a loyal companion of her late husband, David C. Peachey, Sr., for over 74 years. She supported him in all his endeavors of their family, farm, and finances. Elizabeth demonstrated a resilient faith in God in all the trials of life. She tackled difficult tasks and enjoyed them, teaching her children to do the same. While she was able, she was especially fond of working outdoors, with an eye for orderliness. After retirement, David and Elizabeth enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends, and were always glad to hear about the latest addition to the family.
She is survived by fourteen children, Ann, widow of Aquilla Kanagy of McVeytown, Lavina Renno and husband, John of Lewistown, Katie Peachey and husband, Crist of Belleville, Emma Swarey and husband, Henry of Mattawanna, Alta, widow of Leon Miller of Commodore, Barbara Wanner and husband, Warren of Cornersville, TN, Ruth Schrock and husband, Ezra of Oakland, MD, Rufus Peachey and wife, Rachel (Yoder) of Oakland, MD, Samuel Peachey and wife Betty (Hershberger) of Campbell, Hill, IL, Reuben Peachey and wife, Ada (Swartzentruber) of Oakland, MD, David Peachey, Jr. and wife, Tena (Petersheim) of Oakland, MD, Rhoda Kinsinger and husband Henry of Oakland, MD, Lois Schrock and husband, Albert of Oakland, MD, Elizabeth Bender and husband, Edwin of Castorland, NY; 83 grandchildren; 187 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and three siblings, Jacob Peachey, Barbara Byler and husband, Henry, and David Peachey and wife, Linda; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Katie, Mary, Annie, Israel, Rufus, Jesse, and Henry; two sons in law, Aquilla Kanagy and Leon Miller; two grandchildren, Ruth Ann Kanagy and Isaac Bender; and one great grandchild, Linda Weaver.
The family wishes to express their thankfulness for all the prayers, support, and sympathy during this time and a special thank you to Hospice of Garrett County.
Friends will be received on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, from 1 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Gortner Amish Church, 3271 Mason School Road, Oakland, MD 21550. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at 10 AM in the church with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Amish Church Cemetery.
