Beryl E. Smith

Beryl E. Smith, 94, formerly of McAlisterville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Geisinger- Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Sept. 30, 1929, in Centre Hall, Centre County, she is a daughter of Gervin and Alma (Lutz) Schaeffer who preceded her in death.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Harold Green and was married to her second husband, Earl H. Smith, on Dec. 7, 1985 where she was blessed to share more than 28 years of marriage before his passing on Sept. 27, 2014.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Bell and her husband Ron of McAlisterville and Rodger Green and his wife Terri of Goldsboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Andrew Bell and his wife Heidi, Rachael Stroup and her husband Keith, Christopher Bell and his wife Heidi, Mary Lehane and her husband Eoin, Danielle Santiago, and Regan Green; and 16 great- grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Randi Moradel.

Mrs. Smith was a 1947 graduate of Ovid High School in Ovid, N.Y. and was employed as a Secretary in the Admissions and Records Department of Penn State University, retiring in 1989.

Her memberships included the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church in McAlisterville and was a former member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Garden Club in Dauphin.

In earlier life, Beryl and her husband Earl traveled across the United States, traveled to Nova Scotia, and traveled down south to Florida. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting, baking, gardening, bird watching, coloring and reading; however, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family and time with her dogs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, 517 Main Street, McAlisterville with the Rev. Graham Fowler officiating. Interment will take place at Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, Centre Hall.

A closed casket visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Smith's memory can be made to the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 91, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
