Frederick J. Hower

Frederick J. Hower, 96, of Elizabethtown, formerly of East Petersburg and Mifflin, Pa., passed away on Jan. 21, 2024, at Masonic Village Elizabethtown. Fred was the son of the late Earl and Pauline (Gibbons) Hower. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, JoAnne (Smith) Hower, brother Donovan E. and sisters Marjorie Sneddon and Betty Kublic. Fred is survived by three sons, Barry F. (Kathy) Elizabethtown, Pa., Daryl E. (Jeanne) Snellville, Ga. and Stephen E. (Sophia) York, Pa. and daughter Paula Hower Clausen (Jens) Marysville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, class of 1945.

Growing up on the family farm, he began his career as an equipment operator and mechanic for DE Smith Construction, Mifflintown, Pa. Later, he was employed by various trucking companies as a driver/mechanic and everyone who knew him knew he could fix anything. Fred was a 70 year member Union lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown, Pa. He enjoyed Hunting, Penn State football, and Phillies baseball, and was extremely proud of having one of the best lawns in East Petersburg.

At Fred's request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
