Donald R. Gussler Sr.

Donald R. Gussler Sr., 89, of Lewistown, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, at Brookline Manor.

Born Sept. 8, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Dorothy Mae (Wirrick) Gussler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by an infant daughter, Darlene Gussler; a grandson, Daniel Gussler; and siblings, Robert Hockenberry, William Hockenberry, Corrine McLaughlin and Bonnie Benner.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Beckwith) Gussler; children, Denise Gussler, of Lewistown, Donald R. Gussler Jr. and companion, Barb, of New Bloomfield, Diane Gussler, of Collingswood, N.J. and Dana Snyder and husband, Jon, of Halifax; grandchildren, Steven Miller and wife, Karla, Benjamin Gussler and companion, Debra, Ciana Brown, Linzea Snyder, and Brittany Snyder; great-granddaughters, Aubrey Gussler and Paislee Snyder; and a sister, Judy Nace, of McAlisterville.

Donald was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #203 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Elks Lodge #663, Loyal Order of Moose #143, American Legion Logan Guard Post #90. A past vice-president of PA State Council of Carpenters and a past vice-president of State Building Trades, an ex-board member of Carpenters District Council of Western PA and served on Pension Board, past Trustee and Rec. Secretary of Local No. 1333 State College PA, and a member of the Mifflin Juniata Marine Corp League.

He was a graduate of Derry Township High School, Class of 1952.

Donald was a United States Marine Corp veteran. He served in the Korean Conflict.

Earlier in life, he was a union carpenter for many years then he became a Union Business Representative for the Carpenter's Union, retiring Sept. 1996.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 Oak St., Lewistown, with Pastor Jeannine Leister officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Donald's memory may be made to: St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
