Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Debra K. Rimmey passed away on Dec. 23, 2023, at Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. at the age of 66.
Deb was born on Jan. 7, 1957, to Shelby (Peters) and Lester Rhodes in Lewistown. In 1976, she married the love of her life, Barry in Tusseyville, Pa. and they traveled the world on a variety of military deployments. After permanently settling in Leavenworth, Kan., she dedicated her life caring for children by either running an in-home daycare and preschool center or serving as a teaching assistant in preschools in Leavenworth.
While she had always been an avid crafter and quilter, the new millennium introduced her to her passionate hobby of scrapbooking. No event was too small to be neglected by Deb's love of commemorating all of the important moments of everyone's life. If there was one thing she may have enjoyed more than scrapbooking, it is her team, the one and only Sporting Kansas City. Over the years you could hear her screaming from either front-and-center in the Cauldron or from the tippy top of section 102. However, nothing tops her favorite hobby of spoiling her six grandchildren where she'll be forever known as the world's best grammy or meemaw.
Deb always found a way to become friends with everyone and anyone in public. She would light up any room with her bold personality, flamboyantly colored hair and seasonally on-point nail designs. If you were a stranger walking up to her, you'd have a friend for life by the time you walked away.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Rhodes of Milroy; her husband, Barry Rimmey of Leavenworth, Kan.; two sons, Dustin (Emily) Rimmey of Lawrence, Kan., and Brandon (Laura) Rimmey of Olathe, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Toby, Ainsley, Charlie, and Audrey. Deb was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (200 N. 7th Street, Leavenworth, KS) on Jan. 27, 2024 at 11 am followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
