Beverly J. Oberlin

Beverly J. Oberlin, 82, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born on March 20, 1941, in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, she is a daughter of Harry L. and Dorothy M. (Eslinger) Powell who preceded her in death.

On June 28, 1964, she married Ray F. Oberlin, with whom she was blessed to share more than 58 years of marriage before his passing on Feb. 13, 2023.

She is survived by one son, Michael Oberlin and his wife Trudy of McAlisterville; one daughter, Tammy A. Spangler and her husband Bob of Thompsontown; six grandchildren, Shane Spangler and his wife Brenda, Shelley Cornett, Robert Ray Spangler and his wife Christina, Christopher Henry and his wife Nancy, Curtis Henry and his wife Allie, and Cody Henry and his companion Brooke King; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert L. Powell and his wife Sandy and John H. Powell and his wife Terri, all of Linglestown; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Swartz and Barbara King and her husband George, all of Mifflintown; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Oberlin began her career as a study hall monitor at the Tuscarora Junior High School in Mifflintown and then became the secretary for Juniata High School in Mifflintown where she retired.

Beverly was a member of Free Spring Church of the Brethren in Mifflintown where she formerly served as a Sunday School Teacher and was the church's organist. She also was a former member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church in Mifflintown where she also played the organ and piano.

She enjoyed traveling, especially on family vacations to Canada, serving, along with her husband, on several disaster relief trips and playing the organ and piano where she had played for many years for weddings and funerals.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2023 at Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown

A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial services at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Oberlin's memory can be made to her church, Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
