Helen V. Warfel, 97, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday Dec. 27, 2023 at Greenwood Village.
She was born Sept. 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mattie (Thomas) Singleton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Warfel whom she married in 1947, sisters Betty Zimmer, Mattie Moist, and Marilyn Yale, and brothers Harry "Bud", and William "Bill" Singleton. She was the last of her immediate family.
Helen is survived by her children Virginia Howe and husband Roger, of Florida, Curt Warfel and wife Julie, of Georgia, and Brett Buchanan and husband George, of Lewistown, grandchildren, Karen Howe, Katie Lepley and husband Robert, of Lewistown, and Hannah Schmidt and husband Kyle, of Reedsville, Alex Warfel and wife Taylor, Zach Warfel, Max Warfel and wife Sarah, all of Georgia, and great-grandchildren, Ben and Henry Lepley, Liam Schmidt, and Rhett Warfel. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Ann Singleton, of Reedsville, and brother-in-law, Donald Warfel, of Mechanicsburg.
Helen graduated from Yeagertown High School, class of 1944.
She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue after many years of service. In her free time, she enjoyed walking, reading, crossword puzzles, sudoku webs, and traveling to Greenwood State Park to enjoy a Whitehall hoagie. Most of all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed beating them in Yahtzee.
She volunteered at Meals on Wheels for many years as a cook, and was a life-long member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church and was an ordained elder. She also taught Sunday school for many years.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Celebration Villa, and Greenwood Village for the wonderful care that they provided their loved one during her stays there.
