LEWISTOWN -- The Lewistown Community Choir will present its annual "Let Christmas Ring" concert on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 at 3 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lewistown. The concert will present a mix of sacred and secular Christmas music featuring the Lewistown Community Choir, the Eight to the Bar Sisters, Rich Burns, Peter Marsh, Jerry Stone, Rex Goss, Katie Becker and accompanists Patty Loudenslager and Joan Loewen. The choir is under the direction of Terri Limes.
This year, the choir is excited to announce that it will present the premier performance of the choral piece "Come, Messiah, Come" by local musician and composer Philip Loewen. Mr. Loewen, a retired music educator, has composed music for multiple genres including concert band, jazz band, solo and ensemble works for woodwinds and sacred choral pieces.
Loewen stated: "In Isaiah 9, the birth of the Messiah is foretold; a Messiah who is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Considering the state of the world today, and the state of the Church, such a Messiah is still greatly needed. Peace is tragically absent from so many parts of the world, and the Church needs to listen to the voice of the Counselor – that is, the Holy Spirit – with fresh ears to be revived. "Come, Messiah, Come" is a musical prayer that God would again work in this world, and especially in and through the Church, in a powerful way."
The concert will conclude with the singing of the "Hallelujah Chorus".
An informal reception, sponsored by the Barnabas Brothers from St. John's, will follow the concert.
