Max E. Fisher, 90, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 6:02 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born Dec. 14, 1929, in Mexico, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Edward John and Mabel Grace (Deitweiler) Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: first wife, Joanne K. (Hetrick) Fisher, whom he married July 5, 1952, on July 19, 1977; second wife, Hazel (Rittenhouse) Anderson Fisher, whom he married Aug. 12, 1980, on Oct. 4, 2019; and his brother, Richard "Dick" Fisher, Aug. 29, 2019.
Max is survived by: children, Connie S. Anderson, of Mattawana, Douglas E. Fisher, of Lewistown, Chris H. Fisher and wife, Carol, of Burnham, and Carrie A. Henry, of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Matt Fisher and wife, Mindy, of McClure, Carin Benz and husband, Joe, of Pittsburgh, Travis Fisher and wife, Lori, of Burnham, Sonnie Bishop and husband, Adam, of Milroy, Corry Fisher and husband, Dane, of Reedsville, Jme Welsh and husband, Tyler, of Colo., Megan Dubler and husband, Chris, of Lewistown, and Max Henry and wife, Melanie, of Texas; ten great-grandchildren, Chase, Bailey, Gaige, Skyler, Summer, Emmitt, Reece, Rowan, Olive Ann and Beau; and his sister, Lamar Ramsey, of Burnham.
He graduated from Derry Township/Yeagertown High School, Class of 1949.
He was an Army veteran who served as a corporal during the Korean Conflict from Feb. 1951 to Jan. 1953. He was then transferred to the Army Reserve until his discharge in Jan. 1957.
Max was a member of Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, Lewistown.
He began working for his father at Ed Fisher's Service Center, along with his brother, Dick. In 1959, Max and Dick formed Fisher Brothers, Inc., a school bus company that continues to provide transportation services for the Mifflin County School District. He was also a founding member of Lash & Fisher RV Center, and operated a small lawn mower repair shop with his first wife, Joanne, in the early 1960s.
Max was a member of the Pennsylvania School Bus Association, Chief Logan Lions Club, and Beavertown Rod and Gun Club. In his earlier years, he assisted with Boy Scout Troop 113 of Alfarata.
He loved being around his family and especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Max enjoyed decorating his house for Christmas, camping, shopping and attending auctions.
A private graveside service with military honors will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, with Rev. Randall Fiske officiating.
Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to honor and express a big thanks to Max and Dick for making Fisher Brothers Inc. what it is today. Both sacrificed a lot in their early years. The family would also like to thank the staff of Valley View Terrace for the wonderful care Max received while he was a resident.
