LEWISTOWN -- A tradition that has its roots in the 1500s will be recognized this weekend. St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, will present its annual Reformation Recital on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.
St. John's has presented a Reformation Recital for over 30 years on Reformation Sunday, the last Sunday in October. The Reformation began when Martin Luther posted the 95 thesis (points of discussion) on the Castle Church door in Wittenberg Germany on Oct. 31 1517. Luther only wanted to discuss these things with the Catholic Church of the day, but as a result, began Lutheranism and gave birth to the Protestant church.
Sunday's recital will feature a variety of music including keyboard, vocal and dance performed by talented artists from St. John's, the local community and out of town musicians.
"St. John's is honored to be able to present this recital for our area," Reformation Recital assistant Scott Price said. "There will be a wide variety of local talent presenting keyboard, vocal, bells and dance selections. We want to invite the community to come and spend an afternoon of music and fellowship."
Following the recital a time of refreshments and fellowship will be provided by the Barnabas Brothers.
Handel's Messiah will be the next community event at St. John's with a performance Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. Interested singers are needed and welcome. Rehearsals are scheduled for 3 p.m. every Sunday in November at the church. For more information, contact Fred Benner at drfbenner@gmail.com.
