LEWISTOWN -- God has provided his children with many gifts. Count music among the many.

St. John's Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, will present “A Celebration of God’s Gift of Music” on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. This is the second concert to celebrate the restoration of the church organ and the addition of trumpet stops.

Musicians and performers from the congregation will present the musical program. Light refreshments will be served by the church men's group, the Barnabas Brothers, in the fellowship hall after the concert.

"The congregation of St. John's really stepped up to support this project and opened their hearts and checkbooks," Scott Price, assistant event organizer, said. "Thanks to the generosity of the congregation, the project has been completely paid for with excess funds remaining. The church has always been very supportive of the music ministry of the church led by our director of music/organist, Mrs. Patty Loudenslager. That includes our chancel choir, bell choir and children's choir." Loudenslager also serves as the event organizer.

St. John's current Schantz pipe organ was installed in 1989, replacing an older pipe organ. Restoration work, including adding additional pipes that produce the sounds of trumpets, was completed by the Ohio-based Schantz Organ Company.

"We hope to have this type of concert yearly at St. John's," Price said.
