REEDSVILLE -- Big Valley Bible Church will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023.
The church was planted in August 2003 by Jim and Jeff Hartzler.
The Hartzler's were both born and raised in this area. They moved away, married, and started families, but always had a desire to work together in ministry. That desire led them back to their home area.
Big Valley Bible Church started meeting in the family cabin on Stone Mountain and then rented the Bohn building on the corner of Logan and Main St. in Reedsville. Six years later, the church moved to the present facility at 139 W. Railroad St. in Lumber City, Reedsville.
Together, the congregation has sought to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to seek to share Him with the community. The church offers Wednesday night youth clubs that minister to young people in 1st to 12th grade. The church also hosts a summer Vacation Bible School program that has reached many children in the area. The church has been involved in Reedsville Days and the annual fishing tournament. In September, the church will host the annual golf scramble at Indian Run Gold Course. In November, the church will have its annual veterans dinner to honor veterans and families.
Big Valley Bible Church has adult ministries to encourage men and women in understanding the Gospel as well as encouraging their walk of faith. There are men's Bible studies each week and an annual men's retreat to encourage fellowship and spiritual growth. There is a monthly ladies' fellowship that seeks to encourage the ladies in a multi-generational approach to fellowship by including all the younger and older women together. There is an annual ladies' retreat in the fall to allow women to have time away to be encouraged from the Word of God.
The goal is to rejoice in all that God has done through Big Valley Bible Church and to press onward in the years ahead to continue to share the Gospel and encourage believers to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
If you are looking for church fellowship, services are Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Adult prayer meetings and youth ministries are Wednesday at 7 p.m. For more information, call Pastor Jeff at (717) 667-3123.
