MEXICO, Pa. -- Sunday, Aug. 6 is the first day of the 127th annual Island Grove Campmeeting. Campers from across the country are traveling to Mexico, Pa. to spend time amongst the trees and take part in a week of services that make you feel like you're at an old-time revival. A hymn sing, hot dog roast, Bible studies and fellowship are all on the slate for the week-long event.
Services will open with an old fashioned hymn sing with the ever-popular Bunkertown Men's Chorus joining the service. The program typically consists of one evangelist for the entire week. However, the planning committee has opted for a different speaker each night this year. Attendees will hear messages brought by local names, such as James Plank, Samuel Leister, Bob Graybill, Randy Traxler and Don Walters. There will also be special music each night from local talent as well as some of the cottage holders.
As always, services begin at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by refreshments (for a minimal fee) at the Mexico Hilton. There will also be children's service, teen time and Bible study Monday, Aug. 7 through Friday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. on the grounds. All who are interested or have ever wondered about our services are encouraged to attend. The cottage holders and campers love when visitors stop on the grounds during the day to see what Island Grove is all about. Everyone is welcome to attend any and all events during the week.
