Juniata County hunger ministries receive checks from CROP Walk

MIFFLINTOWN -- On Tuesday, Feb. 14, coordinators of the Juniata County CROP Walk visited Meals on Wheels - Juniata County and the Juniata County Food Pantry to give them some big checks. Juniata County held their 50th CROP Walk on Oct. 9, 2022 at the Walker Township Park. Over 100 people walked together and raised $16,784.72 in person and online. This money is used by Church World Service to support hunger ministries around the world, including right here in Juniata County. Twenty five percent of the money raised went to Meals on Wheels and the Food Pantry. So, on Feb. 14, the CROP Walk coordinators gave checks for $2,098.09 to each organization.
It was a real joy to have Matt Witzel from MERF radio playing music for the walk. Everyone commented on how much the music lifted their spirits as we walked. And we had a special treat provided by Pat Dressler and Linda Geissinger from the Juniata County Dairy Promotion Board who served free Ice Cream Sundaes to everyone. They were delicious.
We want to thank our volunteers who made the walk possible: Our registrars-Kate Strawser, Tessa Monroe, and Hazel Hyde; Our Food Pantry representatives-Glenda Fultz and Patti Strawser; our accountants-Ryan Pellman and Tobie Benner; and our coordinators- Hannah Bashore, Kathy Whitesel, Becky Zeigler and Kathy Lehman. We also want to thank all the walkers and their sponsors, our prayer warriors, and the news outlets for their coverage. A special thank you to the Juniata County Commissioners for proclaiming the week of October 3rd Hunger Action Week, and to Walker Township for allowing us to use their park each year.
