Churches arrange Lenten events

McAlisterville Ministerium

McALISTERVILLE — The McAlisterville Ministerium will host the lenten worship series “Questions in the Wilderness.” Due to COVID, the service will be recorded and streamed on the McAlisterville Ministerium Facebook page at 7 p.m. each day (www.facebook.com/mcalistervillemin)

¯March 13 — Perry Munro of Pine Grove/McAlisterville United Methodist Church will preach on “Where Is God Leading?”

¯March 20 — Kevin Brophy of Browns/St. John’s United Methodist Church will preach on the theme “Are We There Yet?”

¯March 27 — Dave Gingrich of Delaware Mennonite will preach on “What am I watching?”

¯April 3 — Karen Ward of Trinity Lutheran will preach on “What is in my Heart?”

¯April 10 — Jodi Strawser of Pass the Salt Ministries will preach on “How can I get Clean?”

¯April 15 — Terry Smith of Free Spring Church of the Brethren will lead a Good Friday service, answering the question “What will nourish my faith?”

Men’s prayer breakfast

PORT ROYAL — Port Royal Men’s Lenten Pray Breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. each Saturday in the Port Royal Community building. There will be a $5 charge for breakfast to cover the meal. Speakers will be as follows:

¯March 12 — Rev. Jeff Henry, Lighthouse Community Church

¯March 19 — LeRoy Yoder, Shade Mountain Fellowship

¯March 26 — Rev. Nicholas Smith, Stony Run Mission

¯April 2 — Garrick Paden, Youth Pastor Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church

¯April 9 — Sam Leister, Messiah Lutheran Church

¯April 16 — Don Walters, Thompsontown Methodist Church.

Lewistown Ministerium

LEWISTOWN — Prayer services, sponsored by the Lewistown Ministerium, are scheduled for noon Wednesdays during Lent at local Lewistown churches for the general public, to inspire spiritual renewal and union with Christ in preparation for Easter. Services will be in person, in the church, about a half hour long, with scripture readings and a sermon delivered. No lunch will be served. The schedule is as follows:

¯March 16 — Lewistown Presbyterian, 17 E. Third Street

¯March 23 — St. Mark’s Episcopal, 21 S. Main Street

¯March 30 — Sacred Heart of Jesus, 106 N. Dorcas Street

¯ April 6 — St. John’s Lutheran, 120 N. Main Street.

¯April 25 — Stations of the Cross inside Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 106 N. Dorcas Street, Lewistown, guided by members of the Lewistown Ministerium clergy. At noon, a “Cross Walk” will begin from the steps of Sacred Heart Church, with participants taking turns in carrying a large wooden cross through the streets of Lewistown, and pausing periodically, before various governmental and service centers (Courthouse, Prison, United Way, fire department, etc.) with designated leaders praying out loud for the services and constituents of those associated with those centers. All are welcome to participate.

Watts Memorial to host Lent programs

BELLEVILLE — Watts Memorial United Methodist Church, 38 Walnut Street, Belleville, will host the following speakers:

¯March 13 — 9 a.m. John Waddel, recent director of Meals on Wheels and Mennonite Central Committee Thrift and Gift Ministries;

¯March 20 — 9 a.m. Kevin Dellape, director of Back Yard Christian Family Ministries in Pennsylvania;

¯March 27 — 9 a.m. Cindy Mansberger, executive director of Crossroads Pregnancy Center Outreach Ministry in Central Pennsylvania.
