MIFFLINTOWN -- Coordinators of the Juniata County CROP Walk raised nearly $3,000 for local food ministries.
Checks of $1,487.41 were distributed to Juniata County Meals on Wheels and the Juniata County Food Pantry on Dec. 7.
The CROP Walk was held Oct. 10 and raised $12,119.30 with eight participants both in-person and online.
The funds are used by Church World Service to support hunger ministries around the world with 25 percent supporting local ministries.
Coordinators wished to thank volunteers who made the walk possible: Kate Strawser, Tessa Monroe and Hazel Hyde; Juniata County Food Pantry representatives Glenda Fultz and Patti Strawser; accountants Ryan Pellman and Tobie Benner; coordinators Hannah Bashore, Kathy Whitesel, Becky Zeigler and Kathy Lehman, and the Juniata County Business & Professional Women for donating water and snacks to fortify the walkers. Organizers also wished to thank walkers and their sponsors, prayer warriors, and news outlets for their coverage. A special thank you to the Juniata County Commissioners for proclaiming the week of Oct. 4 Hunger Action Week, and to Walker Township for allowing them to use their park each year. Next year is the 50th walk.
