HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania's unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in June, remaining below the national rate for the month, according to preliminary figures released Thursday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.
The state's unemployment rate declined by one-tenth of a percentage point from May and was two-tenths lower than June 2025. The U.S. unemployment rate also fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.2% in June.
Pennsylvania's civilian labor force -- the number of residents working or seeking work -- increased by 17,000 to a record 6.643 million. Employment also reached a record high while the number of unemployed residents declined by 6,000.
Total nonfarm employment rose by 1,000 jobs to a record 6.21 million. Seven of the state's 11 industry sectors posted job gains, led by leisure and hospitality, while professional and business services recorded the largest decline. Education and health services reached a record employment level.
Compared with June 2025, Pennsylvania added 34,500 nonfarm jobs, with education and health services accounting for the largest increase at 28,400 positions.
