STATE COLLEGE -- The Medical Executive Committee at Mount Nittany Medical Center expressed confidence in the hospital's plans to maintain patient care if members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania move forward with a strike.
In a statement released this week, the committee said it was disappointed to learn the union had reportedly voted to issue a strike notice in response to the hospital's latest contract proposal.
The committee said its priority remains the health, safety and well-being of patients and the community.
Members also defended the quality of care provided at the hospital, saying recent criticism does not reflect the standards maintained by its clinical teams.
The committee also responded to concerns about the hospital's recent investments, saying the expenditures are intended to improve the work environment, expand access to care and help ensure patients can continue receiving treatment locally.
The physicians said they have confidence in the hospital's contingency plans to continue providing safe, high-quality care in the event of a strike.
The committee encouraged union members to review the hospital's contract proposals and remain engaged in the bargaining process. It also expressed hope that negotiations will result in an agreement that serves employees, patients and the community.
